About This Place

Nestled in the vibrant Dallas Design District, Ascension Coffee - Design District is much more than your average cafe — it’s an exceptional American coffee shop and espresso bar that artfully blends the best of café culture with a refined dining experience. From the moment you step inside, you’re embraced by a warm, inviting ambiance accentuated by thoughtfully distinct interior spaces, creating the perfect backdrop for both casual meetups and focused conversations.

What truly sets Ascension Coffee apart is its remarkable dedication to crafting an elevated coffee experience. If you consider yourself a coffee aficionado, like one customer who raved about the “best cold brew here” — strong, smooth, and free of any bitterness — you’re in for a treat. From expertly pulled espresso shots to indulgent seasonal cortado flights, each cup is an ode to precision and flavor complexity. Their signature Flat White and Levitate Espresso Martini showcase the baristas’ finesse, transforming coffee from a simple beverage into an art form.

But Ascension is not merely a coffee haven. The curated menu of all-day breakfast offerings tastes just as exceptional as the coffee that fuels the day. Imagine savoring the Steak Hash, where tender, thinly sliced filet mingles with a perfectly cooked sunnyside-up egg, nestled atop sweet potato Yukon hash, roasted red pepper blends, caramelized onions, and creamy avocado — all brought alive by a smoky, subtly spicy sauce. Or perhaps indulge in the Brekky Power Bowl, a vibrant and nourishing medley of ancient grains, roasted sweet potatoes, garbanzo salad, and pickled onions, finished with chile crisp that awakens the palate. Every bite is layered with fresh, wholesome ingredients bursting with texture and flavor.

For those with a sweet tooth, the Tres Leches Coffee Cake offers a decadent finish to your meal — moist, rich, and infused with just the right balance of sweetness that harmonizes beautifully with their house-roasted coffee. Mornings and afternoons alike are enhanced by options like soft baked eggs, freshly baked muffins, or the refreshing mimosa, ensuring there’s something to satisfy every craving.

The staff at Ascension Coffee are known for their genuine hospitality and attentiveness. Manager Andrew, in particular, has been highlighted by regular patrons for going above and beyond, bringing a personal touch to each visit that transforms customers into true community members. The atmosphere effortlessly balances lively energy with moments of cozy respite, making it an ideal spot whether you’re grabbing a quick caffeinated lift or lingering over extended conversations.

Real guests frequently remark on the aesthetic beauty of the space — from six distinct wall treatments that visually separate and elevate the layout to a carefully maintained environment that prioritizes guest comfort. While the service may vary slightly depending on the time of day, many find the passionate team members like Michael to be standouts who enhance the overall experience.

Whether you’re a local or just passing through Dallas’ eclectic Design District, Ascension Coffee offers a harmonious blend of stellar coffee, inventive breakfast fare, and an ambiance that feels both energizing and comforting. This is a destination where quality meets community and every visit leaves a lasting impression on your palate and your soul.

The ambiance was amazing! I love the whole vibe and the decor. I’m a coffee snob and have to say that I had the best cold brew here. It’s strong, delicious, and definitely doesn’t have that bitter taste! The food was so delicious! I’ll definitely come back when I’m in the Dallas area again!

Ascension Coffee in the Design District of Dallas absolutely delivered, even though we were just passing through and didn’t get to stay long. I found this spot based on its stellar ratings, and even a short visit was enough to make a lasting impression. The interior is beautifully divided into several visually distinct spaces-at least six different wall treatments that subtly separate the layout without making it feel disjointed. Each section has its own aesthetic, yet everything flows seamlessly together. The overall design is warm, modern, and inviting, with a stylish bar area that adds an extra touch of charm. I ordered a cortado, and it was exceptional-perfectly balanced, well-crafted, and exactly what I needed. The croissant I picked up was fresh and clearly baked that day, which you can always taste. The pastry display was appealing and curated, not overwhelming, with just enough variety. The atmosphere inside was vibrant yet calm, with an interesting, well-dressed crowd that gave the space a cosmopolitan vibe. The staff were friendly and quick, adding to the relaxed and enjoyable experience. And yes, the fact that they also serve alcohol is always a plus in a coffee shop-it makes the space work both for morning coffee and afternoon wind-downs. This place is definitely going on my list of must-visits every time I’m in Dallas. Looking forward to spending more time here next trip.

The coffee at Ascension is 5⭐ but the food is generally 3⭐. The service averages out to be good because some of the staff are exceptional (Michael) and others allow their personal life struggles to bleed into their work demeanor. The atmosphere teeters between being really good and ok depending on how well the air conditioning is cooling and dehumidifying the place and how clean the staff cleans up the dining room. Overall, the probability is that you’ll have a good experience at this location.

Had another wonderful experience here. Brought my SVP of sales here for coffee & breakfast when he was in town. We met the Manager, Andrew, and he sat down with us as we had a few questions regarding partnering together for facilities services for all their locations. Highly recommend this restaurant for sit down or for coffee to-go! So many options to choose from, and so good that I keep coming back!

The manager, Andrew, goes above and beyond for all his customers. I wish I could name all the employees that have positively impacted my experiences over the years but I would surely run out of room in this review. From deliciously consistent lattes in the mornings to full meals in the afternoon, they've never missed the mark. This is by far the best location; esthetics, atmosphere, location, staff, service, and food/drinks. Seasonal drink specials are a must try, and you can never go wrong with the Italian Pane Aria for lunch. Quick and friendly service everytime, but you can expect longer waits on the busy weekends (they're incredibly popular, what can more can I say)

I haven’t been here in years. But coming back the atmosphere was very nice and inviting. I sat outside on the outdoor patio to get some work done however they didn’t have any outlets outside, but they did have an outlet inside at a round table that I eventually moved to. The weight staff was very kind and attentive. The food was excellent and came out quickly. I can definitely see myself visiting again.
